Dear Prince Charming,

I think I have already found you but, if not, please hurry up and find me. They say Prince Charming is out there waiting, but honestly, what are you doing waiting??? Get off your lazy bum and find me. If you're not more motivated than that, you won't be able to hold my interest for long.

And if you are who I think you are, know that you are everything I ever dreamed of and more. The minute I met you I felt something in my heart lock into place. A gentle breeze blew around us and, for a minute, the world stood still. Maybe we've loved each other before, in a previous life. Perhaps we were Anthony and Cleopatra, conquering desert lands. Or maybe we were Lancelot and Guinevere, indulging in forbidden passion. Whatever our past was, and no matter what the future holds, what I feel for you is epic.

Love is a temporary madness, they say.

"It erupts like a volcano and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is.

Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away."

One day, when we are old, I hope we will look back and see that the roots that we had growing towards each other are entertwined, that we are one tree, not two.

Maybe you don't feel the same for me. Perhaps I am simply a side-character in one of your chapters. Someday you will turn the page and find your Leading Lady. But if a woman's intuition is ever to be trusted, I can say that I am certain you are who I've been searching for.

Love is a fickle thing, it can slip through your fingers in an instant, drowned in the multitude of obstacles that make up Life. But Destiny has a way of arranging Fate, of making the impossible possible. You, the idea of you, had seemend impossible to me. Then, one summer night, I met you. Now the distance that separates us, the "not-knowing", seems so insignificant.

The Universe has a way of giving us what it is we TRULY desire. It gave me you, and now I can only hope that it will let me keep you.

And The Countdown Begins

This year, I'm giving up chocolate for Lent and am adding regular exercise and self-reflection.

I used to be so strong in my faith. I grew up Armenian Orthodox, and, although my parents never pushed religion on me, I naturally felt a strong attachent to God. I wasn't Miss. Goody-Two Shoes, but I felt a sense of calm and security because I knew there was someone up there watching over me.

As I grew older, my logic led me to question my faith and, although I still believe in God, I don't feel him. I don't feel the security and calm. Today I went to church for the first time since my Granfather died a year ago. Walking into the church, I was flooded with a profound sense of peace that I haven't felt in a long time.

I think its time God and I worked on our relationship. I'm going to use the next 40 days to think about what's really important in life. I'm going to re-evaluate my relationships, write out my goals and try and figure out what it is that I want from this life.

I'm going to dig deep into my inner wilderness-- flush out my sins, laziness and empty vanity. And I will come out stronger and more self-aware.

At the very least, if I stick to my no-chocolate rule, I'll come out thinner ;)

Things I Want To Do Before I'm 30 (Part I)

(in no particular order)
  1. Learn to scuba dive (Great Barrier Reef)
  2. Visit the Pyramids (Egypt)
  3. Go to the World cup (2010!!! South Africa, here I come!!)
  4. See Machu Picchu
  5. See Petra, Jordan
  6. See Holy Sites in Israel
  7. Vegas, baby! Vegas!
  8. Greek Island hop
  9. Shop the markets in Morocco
  10. Fly first class
  11. Party with the locals during Carnival in Rio, Brazil
  12. Attend Cannes Film Festival

Dear Self:

Life can end so quickly. You have a "saving" nature. When you were little, you saved your candy, hiding it under your pillow, until it spoiled. You save clothes you never wear. You will save your china, vases, frames and stationary. You'll save gift cards that later expire. You'll even save perfume until the scent changes.

Don't do this anymore, use and enjoy all the things you have. Time passes quickly. Take each day as a gift and live life to the fullest. Enjoy all that life has to offer before it is too late.

Office Bloopers

I usually consider myself an intelligent human being. I went to a good school where I got good grades despite skipping most classes and procrastinating until the last possible minute. I graduated two years ago and, since then, it seems I have been sliding down the slippery slope of stupidity. I blame the real world.

Exhibit A: Conversation between Self and Boss several days ago

Boss: Ana, I'm going to be out of town next week, would you mind watering my plants for me while I'm gone?
Me: Sure, Boss, no problem!
Boss: I usually just grab a coffee pot from the kitchen and use that as a watering can.
Me: Oh.....I've never heard of watering plants with coffee. It's a good idea though, it must work as a great fertalizer.
(insert several seconds of awkward silence)
Boss: I suppose I should have clarified...fill the coffee pot with WATER.

Exhibit B: The Fax Machine

I started my first job at a law firm at the height of the rush period. As such, my first few weeks on the job consisted of an abnormal amount of faxing documents. I, of course, didn't mind. After all, better to be doing mindless work faxing documents than being forced to do actual work. After a few days of faxing, I started receiving phone calls from clients who had been expecting faxes, saying they never received anything.

"Well, I clearly remember faxing those documents over to you, Mr./Mrs. _____". Then I would pause, allowing for the implication that they were very stupid to hang in the air.

It was a few weeks later that I noticed that handy little symbol on the fax machine which instructs the user to put papers in upside down. I had been faxing blank pages for weeks.

How Very Appropriate.......

Grab the book closest to you. Turn to page 43. Go to the 4th line. Type that sentence into the comments box.

"They were all--herself included--cowards when the moment comes to change their fate"
-The Devil and Miss Pryn (Paulo Coelho)

I know there are some of you (especially the lucky one who actually gets to meet him!!) who would agree that Paulo Coelho is an amazing writer. His books have literally changed my life. Recently, I received The Devil and Miss Prym as a gift. And it was just what I needed to read:
"...there are two things that prevent us from acheiveing our dreams: believing them to be impossible or seeing those dreams made possibly by some sudden turn of the wheel of fortune, when you least expected it. For at that moment, all our fears suddenly surface: the fear of setting off along a road heading who knows where, the fear of a life full of new challenges, the fear of losing forever everything that is familiar. People want to change everything and, at the same time, want it all to remain the same.."

I've been so tired, busy and stressed these past few weeks that I haven't had the energy to write a normal post. So for now, I'll continue with pictures/words of others. I think even just one night spent in the above pictured bed would make me feel much, much better. A girl can dream...

Heart, We Will Forget Him

HEART, we will forget him!
You and I, to-night!
You may forget the warmth he gave,
I will forget the light.

When you have done, pray tell me,
That I my thoughts may dim;
Haste! lest while you’re lagging,
I may remember him!

-Emily Dickinson

Why is it so hard to forget? Tu me manques...

I Am a Katherine

You Are a Katharine!

How to Get Along with Me
* Give me companionship, affection, and freedom.
* Engage with me in stimulating conversation and laughter.
* Appreciate my grand visions and listen to my stories.
* Don't try to change my style. Accept me the way I am.

* having the guts to take risks and to try exciting adventures
* having such varied interests and abilities

What's Hard About Being a Katharine
* not having enough time to do all the things I want
* not completing things I start
* not being able to profit from the benefits that come from specializing; not making a commitment to a career
* having a tendency to be ungrounded; getting lost in plans or fantasies
* feeling confined when I'm in a one-to-one relationship

Katharines as Children Often
* are action oriented and adventuresome
