Entre chien et loup

Entre chien et loup is a french expression describing the time of day, either in the morning or evening, when the light is such that one would not be able to distinguish a dog from a wolf. The dog symbolizes the day, bringing light to a new beginning, while the wolf symbolizes the night, representing the darkness that can engulf. It is the line between the familiar and the unknown, the uncertain threshold between hope and fear.

Those are my favorite parts of the day. When I watch the horizon dim as the sun sets, I feel secure in the coming of a new day yet, unsure of what it will bring. And, as it comes and the sun rises, its rays carressing the waking sky, all fears are replaced with hope.

In a way, my life is entre chien et loup now. There have been so many new beginnings in the past year and, so many more to come but, at the moment, I am stuck in the inbetween. Waiting, waiting, waiting. Anticipation mixed with fear. Trying to take it one surise and sunset at a time.
